28: Pretty Things: Morning Routine

Hey guys!

I should start off this post by saying that I am not a ‘natural’ morning person. (LOL) Like, at all. We have a love/loathe relationship, really, morning and I.

However, one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself is to establish a solid morning routine. I guess it’s made me into a ‘faux’ morning person by helping me wake up, keeping my time on track and reducing stress! We do not need stress in the morning, nope.

Set alarm with time for snooze
Wait, what? Isn’t the whole point of an alarm to actually wake up when it goes off? Well, technically yes. I like to think of it as more of a wake up announcement than an actual alarm. I know when it goes off that I have exactly nine more minutes that I can sleep. For some reason, this is super comforting. Also, it helps to not feel so devastated when the alarm goes off. (HA) Snooze is your friend.

Make your bed
Immediately after getting out of bed, I always fix my sheets. It’s a mental motivator that tells me sleep is done, let’s get ready for the day. Plus at night, there is just something SO RELAXING about getting into a made bed, right?

Stretch
Waking up those sleepy muscles with a good 10 or so minutes of stretching makes a freaking world of difference in the morning. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but stretching out sleep-stiff muscles energizes me and sets me up to seize the day. You don’t have to do full-out yoga, just a few simple stretches to get some life into your limbs will totally do the trick!

Water with lemon
Before I hop in the shower, I fix myself a glass of water with half a fresh-squeezed lemon. I have heard that it is something like jumper cables for your metabolism and while I don’t know how much truth there is in that, it’s yummy and refreshing. I’m gonna drink water anyway, so why not add a little lemon?

Shower time!
Now that I’m awake, stretched and ready to take on the day, I hop in the shower. I’m in love with the smell of my shampoo, it’s so girly and smells like glitter should, I swear! Anyway, it makes me happy and a happy start to the day is all a girl can ask for, yea? Morning shower goal is to get in, wash up and get out without spacing out under the hot water. (LOL) Gotta keep that forward (awake) momentum going, guys!

Ready to get READY!

By this point, I’m awake and ready to get dressed for the day! I’m such a stickler for doing things in a certain order, it’s kind of sad. Like, get out of the shower, brush teeth, put makeup on, THEN dry and fix hair, slather on coconut oil and finally get dressed and head out the door. I do the same order every single morning, without fail. I suppose it’s my own little ritual; my magic to start the day!

    I actually love making my bed in the morning, it just helps me feel more prepared and organised for the day. I also agree about having a shower, nothing like a good shower to wake you up!

      As for the shower, I literally cannot wake up unless I’ve had one. It’s impossible, lol.

    Looks like a really nice morning routine you have created for yourself there ❤ I'm like you, definitely not a morning person. I really want to be one though! Maybe I should create a routine more like this one… right now mine is basically getting coffee into my belly as quick as possible and then leaving the house. It's not the worst but not exactly the best either.

    Awesome morning routine Trish! I tend to have the same morning routine when I don’t have to work. During workdays it’s all about rushing lol! On my days off I like to definitely drink lemon water its so relaxing and taste so goood. I add a little honey for sweetness!! I don’t hit the snooze button just only by accident haha!
